Sheriff Lodge is set in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales and is within easy travel distance of a variety of activities and walking areas - Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are only minutes away and the Peak District National Park is on our doorstep.
We are also in the unique position of being able to offer beds that are seven feet long - so if you like a little extra space Sheriff Lodge is an ideal place to relax.

You can reach Sheriff Lodge from the centre of Matlock. You will reach a traffic island with a stainless steel crown at its centre (placed there in 1975 for the Queen's Silver Jubilee). Follow the A6 signposted Buxton and the next turning on the right, after Somerfield supermarket and Matlock's bus station is Dimple Road and we are 250 metres up Dimple Road on the left.

We stayed at the Sheriff Lodge for 2 nights in late October, along with some friends of ours. Everything from the hosts, to the rooms, to the breakfasts was spot on, and I can honestly say this is the best B&B I have ever visited in the UK Upon arrival we were greeted very warmly at the front door by Kate and Alan. Alan gave us a tour of the house and explained all the amenities, as well as providing recommendations for dinner and even offering us a cup of tea. A very good start, and we found both Alan and Kate to be very chatty and friendly throughout our stay...Alan helped us out with planning a day-walk, and also let us know about a local fireworks display that was happening that weekend. The lodge itself has a lounge area for guests, which has comfy sofas and a large selection of guidebooks, maps and other information about the local area. There's a fridge in the corner that guests can use to chill their own drinks, and it's also stocked with soft-drinks and bottled water that guests are free to help themselves to. There's also a selection of DVDs (there are DVD players in each room) and boardgames, plus a daily newspaper. The two rooms we had booked with our friends were "the Nest" and "the Loft", both on the second floor. Both were very well appointed with subtle themes throughout, and had good views of the countryside (the views from the Nest being partially obscured by a new YHA building opposite). In each room there was a book full of information about the local area; places to visit, things to do, places to eat etc, plus a TV with DVD player. The Nest's ensuite bathroom had a bath with shower over, while the Loft had a shower but no bath. Both bathrooms were very spacious and clean, and beautifully appointed with wooden floors and branded toiletries. And now for the breakfasts....these were definitely the highlight of our stay! Breakfast is served between 8:30am and 9:30am....you just turn up whenever you want in that hour, and order from the breakfast menu once you've sat down. Options include Eggs Benedict (which was fantastic), porridge, Derbyshire oatcake, and a variety of gluten free and vegetarian/vegan choices (which we didn't try). The piece de resistance was the 'full English', which consisted of 14 different items served on a 12 inch plate...amazing! If you can't hack the whole lot, you're also able to order any combination of those 14 items. There was also a buffet selection of fruit, juices, cereals, yogurts etc, plus coffee, tea, and toast on request. On the Sunday, Alan even laid out a very tasty homemade loaf of bread. We'll definitely be going back and would recommend this place to anyone. We thought the price we paid was worth it for the breakfast alone! Guest from St Albans
