Fishers Farm is situated three miles north of Hungerford in West Berkshire, central southern England, and despite its peaceful rural location it is within a few minutes drive from junction 14 of the M4 motorway.
Fishers is a fine English farmhouse, dating back to the 16th century and set in a large well-tended garden surrounded by open fields. It has large rooms with oak beams, and has all the comforts of central heating and en-suite or private bathrooms.
The bedrooms are spacious and light, and the beds are king-size doubles or generous singles. We have three bedrooms for guests and all can be used as double, twin or single rooms, depending on what is required. All bedrooms have their own private bathroom; two are en-suite and one is immediately adjacent.
There is a large sitting room which has a blazing log fire in the winter. Be warned though, that this is a television-free house. We do ask our guest not to smoke indoors. We have an indoor heated swimming pool which is available for use all year, subject to certain safety rules.
Breakfast is served in our large oak-beamed farmhouse kitchen. We will be pleased to recommend for your evening meal a variety of local pubs and restaurants which all serve excellent food. The closest of these is the Pheasant Inn which is a few hundred yards away.
Our 600 acre (250 hectare) farm surrounds the house. We grow wheat, oats and oilseed rape and we provide grazing for a neighbour's livestock. We will happily suggest a route for a walk, and our dog might condescend to come with you!
As a centre for visiting southern England we are ideally placed. West Berkshire is a beautiful area of unspoilt countryside with the contrast of open downland and the more wooded Kennet Valley. It is an ideal place for walking, riding and cycling. Locally, there are several golf courses which welcome daily members, and you may also be able to arrange horse riding and trout fishing.
We are conveniently situated for the business centres of Newbury, Swindon and Reading.
London and Bath are an easy day's outing, as are Oxford, Salisbury, Winchester and the Cotswolds. The prehistoric circle at Avebury is 15 miles away, and Stonehenge a little further. More locally, we are only three miles from Hungerford with its numerous specialist antique shops and eight miles from Newbury with its famous racecourse and the charming Watermill Theatre. Lambourn, the second largest racehorse training centre in the UK is five miles away. There are numerous picturesque villages in the surrounding countryside.
We are within easy reach of Heathrow airport and Portsmouth ferry port, and are ideally situated for an overnight stop between the English Channel and Irish Sea ferries. You will require a car to reach Fishers Farm as there is no public transport available.
We speak Spanish, French & German.
