Grasmere village is in the heart of the English Lake District and will forever be associated with William Wordsworth, whose home Dove Cottage with its museum, is very close by; another of his homes, Rydal Mount is just two miles away.
Grasmere is set in a valley surrounded by mountains and close to Grasmere Lake; there are attractive shops, cafes, restaurants and a garden centre in the village and of course the famous Gingerbread shop, which was once the village school.
The ancient parish church of St. Oswald, (where Wordsworth is buried) in the centre of the village is well worth a visit.
Grasmere and the whole of the Lake District can be enjoyed at any time of the year, with the colours varying with the season.
Grasmere is an ideal situation for touring all areas of the Lake District by car, being only four miles from Ambleside, eight miles from Windermere and twelve miles from Keswick, all within easy driving distance.
