High Gates House is situated in a rural setting on the edge of the picturesque village of Hempstead, near Saffron Walden.
Our guests are assured of a friendly welcome and a hearty breakfast cooked on the Aga, with homemade bread and local free-range eggs.
We have two spacious twin-bedded rooms, tastefully furnished, with private shower / bath, T.V. and coffee / tea making facilities. They overlook the garden and have views over open countryside.
Visitors are welcome to use the sitting room where they can watch T.V. or browse the selection of books.
Hempstead is the birthplace of the infamous highwayman Dick Turpin, who once lived in the local 'Bluebell Inn'.
William Harvey, who discovered the circulation of blood, is buried in the local 14th century church.
Opportunities to enjoy the rolling countryside on foot are plentiful, or visit the many picturesque thatched villages such as Finchingfield, Thaxted, Clare and Arkesden.
